Innovation … the source of differentiation

People used advertising for decades to make old ideas look more desirable to the customers or redesign a brand image to make it look more prestigious among others,
but now a days companies have been asking designers like IDEO to remake their products to better meet the Customer’s’ needs instead and by time the “human-centered design” technique developed to create brand new services/products to become more personalized.

Using the design thinking processes, agencies like IDEO are inspired by great historical innovators like Edison. Breaking the idea of the lonely genius method, Edison wasn’t a narrowly specialized scientist but a broad generalist with a business sense who surrounded himself with gifted thinkers, improvisers, and experimenters.

Powered by the deep understanding and observation of what people like or dislike, design thinking is a profession that blends art, craft, science, and business. Design thinking, using the designer sensibility and methods to match people’s needs, alongside with technology and business methods can easily create numerous market opportunities. According to Tim Brown , the CEO of IDEO , In order to go through the redesigning processes one must bypass three stages.

First one must understand the mentality and needs he/she is designing for, observe the customer or the product/service usage and empathize with the users. Then conclude insights about the user and define the customer’s problems that needs improvements or change
The next step comes the exploration stage. At this point one must ideate or generate a range of crazy, and creative ideas and prototype, build a representation for a range of your ideas just to generate useful feedback and evolve an idea. The goal of prototyping isn’t to finish, it is to learn about the strengths and weaknesses of the idea and to identify new directions that further prototypes might take.
Last but not least comes the materializing stage where one test the final product and finalize the product. I think the design thinking process is very beneficial for everyone as it can be applied in any work filed to improve it further.
